December 20, 2012, Tucson, Arizona -- At its November 30
meeting in Tucson, the CARF Board of Directors elected Kayda Johnson to serve a
consecutive term as chair of the board. Her second one-year term begins January
The board provides governance of CARF International, a
nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.
"It is an honor to serve another term as the board
continues its important work in enhancing the lives of persons served,"
Johnson is chief operating officer of Senior Resource Group,
LLC, in Solana Beach, California. Active nationally in the senior housing
industry, she served on the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) Board
of Directors for more than twelve years and is now engaged in the federation's
executive chief operating officers group. She has participated in committees of
the National Investment Center (NIC) for senior housing and care industries,
and she is active in the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA).
Johnson is the current secretary of the Arizona ALFA Board
of Directors and is a member of the Continuing Care/Residential Communities
Committee of Aging Services of California. She is a frequent speaker at
conferences and contributing author to industry journals and publications.
Johnson served on the faculty of the University of Redlands
for twenty years. She holds M.B.A. and B.S. degrees and RN/AAS designation, and
she is a licensed nursing home administrator and certified residential care
Before her present position overseeing operations for Senior
Resource Group, Johnson held chief operating officer positions in large
retirement housing companies for ten years. Senior Resource Group develops,
owns, and operates high quality senior housing communities that are home to
more than 4,000 residents on 17 campuses throughout Arizona, California,
Florida, and Oregon.
Richard Forkosh reelected to board terms
At the board's November 30 meeting, Thomas J. Buckley,
Ed.D., and Richard Forkosh were elected to serve additional three-year terms on
Buckley is executive director of the Lucanus Developmental
Center in Hollywood, Florida. Forkosh is president and CEO of United Cerebral
Palsy Heartland in Manchester, Missouri. He chaired the CARF Board of Directors
from 2006 through 2007.
Cathy Ellis to leave
Cathy Ellis, PT, will retire from the CARF Board of
Directors when her term expires at the end of this year.
Ellis is the assistant vice president of clinical services
and the clinical director of the spinal cord program at the National
Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in Washington, D.C. She served as the CARF Board
of Directors chair for three one-year terms from 2009 through 2011.
Serving in diverse health and human service fields, the
eleven members of the CARF Board of Directors bring unique and valuable
experience to their governance roles.
